RCOD and Anson Street School
The club has had a strong relationship with Anson Street School for many years, starting with donations for their bus and Sailability. Amongst many things the school does is grape growing and wine making, with assistance from their students. For several years staff have provided breakfast one Wednesday morning for Miss-a-Meal where the payment is donated to the Rotary Foundation. The 2016 visit included a talk by the Principal and a tour of the school.
RCOD hosts a dinner with David Foster
$20 000 was raised for clinical trials at Orange Health Service at An Evening with David Foster, including $5000 donated by RCOD. The main guest speaker was world champion axeman David Foster who spoke enthusiastically about men looking after their health; while haematologist Dr Doug Lenton, who works as part of the trials, and Graeme McLean, President of the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak, spoke emotively of the impact of the Orange-based trials.
RCOD club member Jo McRae took a special interest in the evening.
“My mum [Kathy] has been receiving treatment through the Orange hospital and I am passionate about people being able to access these excellent services,” she said.“We had a wonderful response to the evening, far beyond our expectations. People have been incredibly generous.” Funds were raised through ticket sales, sponsorship, an auction and donations. The auction of David Foster's world championship axe raised over $8000.
